Scot youngster Jax Thoirs new home country U20 mark of 5.03m set at Sportcity in Manchester on Saturday hardly survived three days as he climbed a further 7cm over a new figure of 5.10m at a pole vault meeting in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Tuesday.

In addition, he equalled Scot Huggins‘s total Scottish U20 record dating back to 2008 at Loughborough as he seems poised to take it in his sole possession and up to considerably higher heights at this rate. Competitionwise, he came second to Finn Mikael Westo who cleared 5.20m.

Back in England and Crystal Palace, Greg Cackett bore out his big opener of a PB of 6.70 secs as he put together a brace of 6.74 and 6.76 secs settings over 60m at the sprint-centred indoor open on the same day. Coached by Margot Wells, he has been storming through the ranks and could even rise as a new force on the domestic front this season, so bear this name in mind come summer!

Talented 16-year-old Dina Asher-Smith posted 7.71 and 7.72 secs in her own races respectively having already clinched a PB of 7.57 secs in the early days of this indoor term.
