Mara Yamauchi has completed a full withdrawal of the originally named trio to represent Britain in the individual women’s marathon at the World Championships in Daegu, Korea, following the earlier departures of Jo Pavey and Louise Damen through to injuries.

The Beijing sixth placer said, through husband and coach Shige, that she felt she was losing her race against time to regain full fitness and be competitive in the streets of Daegu so has shifted her sights on gearing up to qualify for next summer London Olympics.

Following that latest development, Britain will be only represented in the team event and there only by Alyson Dixon and Susan Partridge, without a full team that is.

PS I’m slightly mystified by Mara’s assertion since she was selected on a fitness test last April in the first place.
